Abstract

Qur’anic verses on collateral, entrusted property, orphans’ property, and leadership are generally examined separately in Islamic transactional jurisprudence, guardianship law, and leadership ethics. This study aimed to analyze amanah as a connecting principle in the interpretation of Al-Baqarah [2]: 283, Ali Imran [3]: 75, An-Nisa [4]: 2, and An-Nisa [4]: 58 and its implications for governance. This qualitative library research employed a thematic exegetical approach (maudhu’i) with tahlili analysis of classical exegetical sources and scholarly literature published since 2020. The analysis showed that the four verses share thematic connections centered on amanah. An-Nisa verse 58 establishes the general principles of fulfilling amanah and acting justly. Al-Baqarah verse 283 regulates the mechanism of collateral (rahn) while affirming responsibility in relationships based on mutual trust. Ali Imran verse 75 criticizes double standards in fulfilling amanah across groups, whereas An-Nisa verse 2 emphasizes the protection of orphans through the management of their property. The synthesis of interpretations indicates that amanah is not limited to a personal virtue but also requires concrete governance practices through recordkeeping, the separation of assets, testimony, and accountability. This study positions amanah as an ethical principle that connects individual responsibility with the management of property and authority. Its contribution is an integrated interpretive framework relevant to guardianship practices in Indonesia, Islamic pawnbroking, and the prevention of abuse of office. However, this study is limited to written sources and does not yet include field data.
