African Journal of Sciences and Traditional Medicine (AJSTM) is an international peer-reviewed journal devoted to the advancement of natural and life sciences, particularly where scientific inquiry intersects with traditional medicine and biologically relevant applications. The journal provides a scholarly channel for the rapid communication of original research, scientific innovations, and evidence-based studies relevant to health, medicinal resources, and biological systems.
Aims
African Journal of Sciences and Traditional Medicine aims to publish rigorous, peer-reviewed research that advances scientific knowledge in natural and life sciences while promoting analytically grounded and evidence-informed scholarship in traditional medicine and related biological fields.
Scientific Advancement: disseminate high-quality studies that deepen understanding in biological, biochemical, environmental, and health-related sciences.
Traditional Medicine Research: encourage scientifically grounded research on plant medicine, phytomedicine, bioactive compounds, and traditional therapeutic knowledge.
Life-Science Integration: promote interdisciplinary links among biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, toxicology, biotechnology, parasitology, and health sciences.
Application and Relevance: support studies with meaningful implications for public health, medicinal resource development, environmental health, and agricultural or biomedical applications.
International Scholarly Value: encourage clearly reported studies with reproducible methods and contributions relevant to both regional knowledge and wider scientific discourse.
Submissions should clearly state the research problem, describe methods transparently, present defensible evidence, and articulate a meaningful contribution to science, traditional medicine, or related life-science scholarship.
Scope
AJSTM welcomes original research articles and related scholarly contributions across natural, biological, health, and medicinal sciences, especially studies that engage empirically with traditional medicine and its scientific applications.
Traditional Medicine and Phytomedicine: medicinal plants, herbal formulations, ethnomedicine, pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, and evaluation of therapeutic bioactive compounds.
Life and Biomedical Sciences: microbiology, molecular biology, parasitology, physiology, toxicology, biochemistry, and related biological or biomedical investigations.
Health and Applied Medical Research: public health, laboratory medicine, disease-related studies, therapeutic evaluation, and evidence-based health interventions relevant to natural and traditional medicine contexts.
Environmental and Agricultural Biosciences: biodiversity, medicinal-resource management, environmental health, biotechnology, and biologically oriented agricultural research.
Interdisciplinary Scientific Studies: integrative research connecting natural sciences, life sciences, and traditional medicinal knowledge through robust empirical, analytical, or experimental approaches.
Priority is given to original research articles and interdisciplinary studies that demonstrate scientific rigor, methodological transparency, and clearly articulated implications for health, medicinal science, and evidence-based traditional medicine scholarship. Studies with practical, translational, or policy relevance are also strongly encouraged.
