Abstract

Although professional zakat has received attention in several previous studies, research that specifically discusses its role and benefits in reducing poverty at the village level still needs to be strengthened. This study aims to analyze the role and benefits of professional zakat in reducing poverty in Tanjungsari Village, Pacitan Subdistrict, Pacitan Regency. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research informants included zakat administrators, religious leaders, village officials, muzakki, and mustahik selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that professional zakat played an important role in helping the community meet basic needs, such as food, education, health, and small business capital. In addition, professional zakat had a positive impact on improving the welfare of poor communities through consumptive and productive assistance. These findings strengthen the understanding of the optimization of professional zakat in empowering the economy of village communities and contribute to the development of Islamic social welfare studies. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of effective, transparent, and well-targeted professional zakat management in supporting community poverty reduction. The implications of this study provide theoretical contributions to the development of Islamic economics studies and practical implications for zakat institutions, village governments, and religious leaders in improving the dissemination and management of professional zakat so that its benefits are more optimal for the community.
