Abstract

Moral education is an important component of Islamic education in shaping students’ faith, noble character, and commendable behavior. Developments in digital technology present challenges such as abusive language, cyberbullying, and poor communication ethics among students. This study aimed to analyze the foundations of moral education in Al-Qur’an and hadith and their relevance to shaping students’ behavior in educational settings and digital spaces. The study employed a qualitative approach using library research through an examination of verses from Al-Qur’an, hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and relevant books and scholarly articles. Data were analyzed descriptively and analytically by identifying the core values of moral education and relating them to contemporary challenges concerning student behavior. The review findings showed that the foundations of moral education encompass role modeling, strengthening monotheistic belief, respect for parents and teachers, anger management, justice, patience, and communication ethics. The discussion of cases of negative behavior in WhatsApp groups highlighted the gap between understanding moral values and applying them in digital interactions. These findings emphasize the need for moral education that integrates role modeling, habituation, dialogue, guidance, and ethical digital literacy, accompanied by cooperation between families and madrasahs. Moral education grounded in Al-Qur’an and hadith needs to be implemented contextually and continuously to support the expression of Islamic values in students’ social and digital behavior. This review provides a conceptual foundation for educators and families in linking moral education to the challenges of communication ethics in the digital era.
