Abstract

Social studies (IPS) instruction at MIS Raudlatussalam Besuk faces challenges involving high levels of learning boredom, low student motivation, and limited use of interactive media, which are associated with low student engagement and monotonous instruction. This community service (PKM) initiative aimed to implement IPS-Poly, an instructional medium based on game-based learning, to reduce boredom and increase students’ learning activity and motivation. The initiative employed a participatory mentoring approach through needs analysis, media design and validation, dissemination, teacher training and mentoring, instructional implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through observations of student activity, questionnaires, teacher interviews, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively by comparing conditions before and after the medium was implemented. The evaluation results showed that average student learning activity increased from 45.3% to 86.8%, while learning motivation increased from 56.5% to 89.8%. The percentage of students with high levels of learning boredom decreased from 68% to 18%. Teachers gave the medium an average rating of 4.84 on a 5-point scale for ease of use, content suitability, appeal, and usefulness. These findings indicate that the implementation of IPS-Poly was accompanied by increased student activity and motivation and reduced learning boredom. This medium has the potential to offer an alternative for more active, interactive, collaborative, and student-centered social studies instruction. This initiative provides a practical contribution to the use of game-based instructional media in Islamic schools. Follow-up activities include developing a wider variety of questions, providing ongoing teacher mentoring, and extending implementation to other topics or subjects.
