Abstract

The challenges of da’wah among transmigrant communities have received attention in various studies. However, research specifically analyzing da’wah challenges based on the elements of da’i, mad’u, and maddah among the transmigrant community in Nagari Taratak Tinggi remains limited. This study aimed to describe and analyze da’wah challenges among the transmigrant community in Nagari Taratak Tinggi, Timpeh Subdistrict, Dharmasraya Regency. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design through field research. The study involved 12 informants, comprising six da’i, three community leaders, and three community members. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and subsequently analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results revealed three main aspects of da’wah challenges. First, the da’i aspect encompassed the limited number of preachers and their intellectual competence, although their spiritual and moral competence was relatively good. Second, the mad’u aspect included geographical constraints, economic conditions, limited religious education, and the influence of technology and information on religious behavior. Third, the maddah aspect was characterized by the repetition of da’wah material due to the absence of a coordination forum among da’i, the lack of regular study sessions, and limited da’i resources. These findings confirm that da’wah challenges among transmigrant communities are multidimensional and involve interconnections among the practitioners, target audiences, and content of da’wah. This study contributes to expanding scholarship in da’wah studies by comprehensively mapping da’wah challenges among transmigrant communities. In practical terms, coordination among da’i needs to be strengthened, intellectual competence enhanced, and da’wah activities and materials planned systematically and sustainably.
